It was on a visit to the British Museum that Sally-Mae fell in love with the look of black letters on a page of a medieval manuscript and wanted to become a calligrapher. Calligraphy is ‘the art of beautiful writing’.
There are hundreds of different scripts that a calligrapher can do. She will work with the client to decide which is the best script for a particular job, it could be something akin to an early uncial hand, a dark gothic or a decorative italic, it could be in capitals or lower case.
Calligraphers will work with a broad edge pen for most formal work. Brushes and other tools can be used when doing more expressive work when working with poems and prose.
